Top Team to Lead Wandsworth Prep School

Wandsworth Prep School is delighted to announce that Melissa McBride has been appointed as Head of the school, and that Bridget Saul has been appointed as Deputy Head.

Currently Head of Year 8 and Head of PSHCE at Thomas’s London Day School in Battersea, Melissa, who lives in Wandsworth, has a wealth of experience to bring to the school.  At Thomas’s she has worked alongside the senior management team to deliver a wide range of whole school initiatives, with responsibility for curriculum planning, liaising with parents on pastoral and academic matters, and line management of six Year 8 form tutors.

Bridget, who also joins from Thomas’s, has fifteen years of teaching under her belt and eleven years’ experience as Head of Department. She is also Monitoring and Evaluation Co-ordinator at Thomas’s and heavily involved in 11+ and 13+ and its implications on curriculum planning and delivery. She also works closely with the school’s Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator to identify and monitor the progress of gifted and talented pupils as they progress through the school.

Both Melissa and Bridget are keen to meet prospective parents of Wandsworth Prep at the Open Mornings taking place on the 24th and 31st March to explain their vision for the school.
“Wandsworth Prep School will aim to turn out intellectually curious pupils who are ready to take a full, active and positive role as a global citizen, and above all strive to instill in pupils a love of lifetime learning and foster an atmosphere of mutual respect,” Melissa explains. “The highest level of integrity, credibility and leadership from me and my senior management team will be required in order to establish the strong withstanding relationships necessary to implement and achieve the school’s strategic vision.  We are determined that every decision we make addresses the question; ‘How will it benefit the pupils?”

Melissa’s initial objective as Head will be to establish and drive the core mission, vision and values of the school in order to set a clear direction for the future, and to ensure the strong withstanding relationships with parents and the wider school community are developed and protected. “Commitment, stamina, leadership, ambition, love of a challenge, and the ability to think on my feet, are just some of the qualities I will be bringing to the role at Wandsworth Prep. My record of achievement as an ‘Outstanding’ teacher and a highly successful manager with whole school responsibilities, together with the investment and quality of support from Bellevue Education that is being provided make me very excited about this new challenge.”

Interested parents are invited to Melissa and Bridget at the Wandsworth Prep School Open Mornings which are taking place on the 24th and 31st March (10:00 – 12:00). Places can be booked here.

Bellevue Opening New School in Wandsworth

Alvering Library in Wandsworth is in the process of being transformed in to a brand new co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 4-11, which will be opening its doors to pupils in September 2012.

Non-selective for entry at Reception, Wandsworth Preparatory School is part of the Bellevue Education group of schools and will provide an exciting and stimulating educational environment.

Run by former Head Master Mark Malley, Bellevue Education is committed to broad curricula, innovative teaching methods and excellent teachers who can capture children’s imaginations and create a real love of learning.

“I have wanted to open a school in Wandsworth for a very long time – it is a wonderful area, and one that I know very well, having lived in Putney with my family. So when Edwina Angell-James, principal of Wee Ones Nursery, approached me with her ideas for the School, I jumped at the chance to start something really special.

Wee Ones is firmly established as a leading nursery that really nurtures and stimulates its children and I knew that together, Edwina and I could create a school that delivers the very best of traditional education in innovative and exciting ways; that provides a nurturing environment, and one that stimulates and excites. That’s what Bellevue Education is all about; that’s what I personally am all about.”

At Bellevue schools, children are encouraged to learn independently, and are treated as individuals with their own unique set of talents. Pupils are expected to achieve the highest standards and Bellevue is very proud of their high attainment, but sees this as only one part of the education it offers and not the exclusive focus.

A Launch Event will be held at Alvering Library from 7:30pm on Thursday 26th January, where interested parents can find out more about the new school, share a glass of wine with the Bellevue team and pick up a prospectus and registration form. Places are strictly limited, so interested parents are encouraged to register at www.wandsworthprep.com
