Teacher Development Coach (Level 4)

*Level 4 Learning and Skills Mentor (LSM) qualification.

This 12 month apprenticeship course is suitable for Middle Leaders, Aspiring Senior Leaders and ECT Mentors

The core intent of this Level 4 programme is to transform experienced practitioners into highly skilled Teacher Development Coaches, moving beyond the role of an informal advisor.

In a collegiate partnership, these dual-professional coach-mentors drive measurable, sustainable improvements in Teaching and Learning (T&L) by empowering colleagues through a facilitative, person-centred coaching approach.

Our curriculum, underpinned by established models like Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence and the Johari Window, is designed to cultivate self-aware, ethically sound professionals ready to immediately put their skills into practice.

By focusing on high-quality, evidence-based mentorship, the programme enables schools to effectively nurture and retain their talent, creating a pipeline of ambitious staff who are confident in supporting the wider school and seeking senior leadership opportunities.

This apprenticeship focuses on:

  • The skills of coaching and mentoring using research based, proven models and methods.
  • Developing other teachers in their classroom practice in a skilled and positive way as well as reflecting on and refining their own practice.
  • Developing the skills to give and receive constructive feedback that supports individual and team growth.
  • Understanding support and challenge and how to use these effectively.
  • Becoming effective middle leaders who can support school priorities and SLT and support school improvement.
  • Building professional and trusting relationships between staff to assist development.
  • Achieving tangible, measurable improvements in pupil outcomes.
  • Developing a coaching culture in your school.
  • Learning how to contract for effective partnerships and the ethical and legal boundaries  within coaching and mentoring
  • Researching evidence informed practice and sharing findings with peers
  • Practical workshops putting coaching into practice and giving peer to peer feedback as well as receiving feedback from qualified and experienced coaches, mentors and senior leaders.
I’ve always wanted to support others with their career and through this apprenticeship I now understand the best way to do this. Arabelle, Apprentice LSM L4
