Bruern Abbey Senior School Welcomes New Head
News
We are excited to welcome Mrs. Kate Walker as the new Head of Bruern Abbey Senior School.
From August 2024, Kate Walker joins Bruern Abbey Senior School from Repton School, where she has worked since 2015 as Head of English and, latterly, a boarding Housemistress. She has an MA in English and Philosophy from St Andrews University and completed the Graduate Teacher Programme in Suffolk whilst working in a range of maintained schools. Her independent sector career began at Oakham, where she held various academic positions, as well as being a resident tutor, coaching riding, and leading trips to Kenya and Uganda.
She is joined at Bruern by her husband, Oliver, previously Director of Music at Repton, and her son, Albie, who was born in late 2022. Kate is passionate about equestrian sport, particularly side saddle riding and, when not chasing her toddler or busy at school, she enjoys boating, and looking after her back-yard hens.
Kate comments;
“I am very much looking forward to getting to know the boys at Bruern as the school enters this next stage of its development. Now that there are boys in all three year groups and a super collection of new teachers joining the existing group of talented and committed staff, there will be exciting opportunities to develop the academic, boarding and extra-curricular life of the school, and I am thrilled to be part of it. 2025 will see Bruern’s first set of public examination results, and I am very much looking forward to supporting the 5th form boys and their families through this important year.”
Bruern Abbey offers specialist education and pastoral support exclusively to boys with dyslexia, dyspraxia, or other learning difficulties.
