Brabyns pupils raise over £1500 for local charity

Children at Brabyns Preparatory School, Marple, part of the Bellevue group, are delighted to announce their annual fundraising total of over £1500 for local charity Millie’s Trust.

Millie’s Trust was created in memory of Millie Thompson, who tragically passed away in a choking incident at a nursery in 2012. The funds raised by the children at Brabyns will help to train more people in basic life-saving skills.

Children and staff throughout the academic year have raised money through fundraising events at school as well as throughout lockdown during home learning, where they hosted a virtual sleepover to replace their usual camping trip to raise money for the cause.

Year 5 teacher, Alex Munro also took part in her own lockdown marathon to raise money for Millie’s Trust, where she ran to each of her pupil’s homes for a socially distanced visit to keep spirits up during the height of lockdown.

The charity have worked with Brabyns to train staff and children for a number of years, ensuring the school has full first aid training as well as the nursery achieving “Millie’s Mark” accreditation.

Lee Sanders, Headteacher at Brabyns, said: “We were delighted to be able to support Millie’s Trust in the last academic year. It is a great charity with an essential purpose. Our staff and children have benefitted from the Millie’s Trust’s support, and to be able to raise funds so that others can have essential first aid training is something we firmly believe in. We hope the funds will enable more people to be suitably trained and more schools to gain the Millie’s First Aid Award like we have.”

A spokesperson from Millie’s Trust said: “Thank you to all the parents and carers of the children at Brabyns Prep School for your generosity this past academic year. We are so grateful for your donations, particularly in the year we’ve had – this will give us a fantastic boost and enable us to train more people to learn basic life saving skills.

“Thank you to all the children, who we had the pleasure of meeting back in September last year and we even trained some pupils back in February. Last but no means least, thank you to all the teachers and staff for supporting the children in their fundraising events and a shout out to Mrs Munro, who completed a lockdown marathon. We really appreciate your support and wish you all the best for this coming year of fundraising.”
