The Hampshire School Chelsea, a Bellevue school based in South West London, has appointed its new headteacher Richard Lock, who joins the school in September 2022.

Richard is currently on the Senior Leadership Team as Director of Studies at Wetherby Prep where he has been for the last five years and has played a major role in the success of the school. Richard brings extensive knowledge and experience of independent education in London, having worked previously at Northcote Lodge.

After achieving his degree in economics, Richard was drawn into the world of teaching and achieved his PGCE in primary education and MA in school leadership.

In his spare time, Richard is very active and enjoys long cycle rides, weekends away camping and spending time with the family.

Richard is ambitious for the future of the school and will be focused on providing high quality teaching and learning, outstanding co-curricular provision and raising ambition for each child at every stage. Of the appointment, Richard said, ‘I have been thoroughly impressed by the dedication of the staff, the strong sense of shared values within the school community, and the confidence and happiness that the children exude. I very much look forward to meeting with parents, staff, pupils and the wider community over the coming months.’

Bellevue Education Director Steven Wade comments: ‘I am delighted that we have appointed Richard Lock as the new headteacher of The Hampshire School Chelsea. Throughout the process we were thoroughly impressed with Richard’s appreciation of the ethos and community of The Hampshire and grasp of the opportunities that lie ahead for the school.’

Richard will succeed Dr Pamela Edmonds, who has served as headteacher since 2018.
