Wandsworth Prep pupils receive signed letter from the President of France
News
Two Year 5 pupils from Wandsworth Prep School were delighted to receive a signed letter from French President Emmanuel Macron in response to work completed in their French lessons.
As part of their French lessons, pupils have been learning to write letters in French and were presented with a challenge to compose a letter in French to either a notable sportsperson or politician.
Two pupils chose to write to President Emmanuel Macron, asking a number questions to gain more insight into the President’s favourite hobby, sport and food. They received a reply to their letters from the Elysee Palace. In his reply, Monsieur Macron expressed how important he believes it is for others to learn the French language. He wished both the Year 5 pupils, and the rest of their class, luck with the rest of their time at school and hoped that they would, as a result, achieve their dreams.
Commenting on the children’s success, Headteacher, Bridget Saul, said: “An integral part of modern language learning is authentic communication. Writing letters to Emmanuel Macron enabled the children to practise and fine-tune their skills and, having received a reply, added a real sense of purpose. Encouraging children to learn languages in primary schools is pivotal to the UK producing the next generation of linguists.”
